Debra Martin

Debra Martin

Debra Martin, a Canadian artist, lives and paints in the Okanagan Valley, located in British Columbia. She has travelled extensively across Canada and to destinations in Europe and Asia.  The culture, art, architecture, and landscapes of these various regions have greatly influenced how her perspective of her local surroundings is translated onto the canvas.

Debra is known for her bold, colourful landscapes, as well as her dynamic still-life images that capture the rich colour and flavour of the local culture.  She is primarily self-taught although her work is informed by several influences.  She has been inspired by the movement, complexity of pattern and symbolism in the work of Gustav Klimt.  The bold and gutsy brushstrokes in especially the canvases of Lawren Harris and A.Y. Jackson have inspired and challenged Debra, as have the complex and subtle layers in the work of the impressionist painters.

Her paintings are found in corporate and private collections across North America.  Debra's work is currently represented by Gallery 421  in Kelowna, BC. Canada.
